Case Study II:  This charity is working in sub-Saharan African countries to support young people to develop their sustainable business enterprises through the provision of  training and credit support. Th UK based head office was trying to maximise the involvement of its staff, especially finance staff around the world to make a bigger impact. We took a number of approach towards building a global finance team where staff  primarily starts to think for the whole organisation rather than the country or team they belong to.These included a) establish regular communication among  global finance team comprised of finance staff anywhere in the organisation b) actively engage finance staff to involve in projects beyond their usual working place c) any new or vacant finance job was first made available to global finance team members d) met once a year not to discuss on technical accounting but how to help each other. Within a year, the charity felt the wider contribution by the finance staff to its core mission.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE FOR OTHERS

Case Study I: This is a unique charity operating with its head office in a third world country and a fundraising office in London. All board members/trustees also located in UK. As a cost saving measure it got rid of its London office director who was also overseeing the finance and other support services including company secretarial functions leaving a junior finance person to deal with finance functions in London. We acted as a helping hand to improve capacity of the remaining staff. We coached the junior finance person, mentored the finance director based in overseas, supported board on the company secretarial/ regulatory roles and worked with the auditors. Our involvement lasted two years with high concentration at the beginning and around 2 days a month at the end. 

We donate 1% of our pre-tax profit to charities and good causes.
